The military made clothing that was utilitarian: they needed to protect those who were wearing it while also offering comfortability and unencumbered movement. They didn't intend for them to be stylish, but that's what happened anyway. The clothing was worn by hippies and rockers and everyone else. This vintage military issued cotton WWII era herringbone jacket, nicely worn in with repairs on the cuffs and sleeves, is from the US Marine Corps.
