In 1993, Tag Team released their song "Whoomp! (There It Is)," a song that instantly became massive. It went multi-Platinum and spent a number of weeks on charts across the globe. Tag Team never reached that level of success again. However, despite the song's ubiquity and popularity, the title was often misstated. In listeners' defense, it's often hard to discern onomatopoeia on the radio. So what began as "Whoomp" turned into "Whoop" for the vast majority of the population, and has stayed that way to this day. It may be wrong, but it feels right.
