Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are was published in 1963. The book won the Caldecott Medal in 1964 for "Most Distinguished Picture Book For Children." And since then, the book's popularity has only grown. The 40-page story follows a young rebellious boy named Max who is sent to his room and goes on a magical adventure to an island where he meets terrifying yet sweet creatures named Wild Things. The story was turned into an animated short and later into a full-length film by Spike Jonze in 2009.
