Los Angeles rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg released his sophomore Album Tha Doggfather on Death Row in 1996. The time around the release was contentious to say the least. Only one year prior, Snoop was on trial for murder. And just a few months prior to the release, rapper and Snoop's Death Row label mate 2pac Shakur was murdered. Despite all the tension, Snoop released a classic album. The record debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts and has since gone two-times Platinum. This was Snoop's last album going by Doggy Dogg, as Snoop would shorten his name to Snoop Dogg after the release.
