Babatunde Olatunji was a Nigerian percussionist. He came to the United States in 1950 to attend school at Morehouse College and wound up signing to Columbia Records shortly thereafter. His debut record was called Drums Of Passion and was released in 1960. Olatunji also called his band by the same name. His music became many Americans first exposure to "world" music, and he quickly earned a following from many jazz musicians and began collaborating with them. He played with Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, and Max Roach. He continued to play music and also got involved in politics. Olatunji passed away in 2003 at the age of 75. This original hand painted Babatunde Olatunji shirt, deadstock in excellent condition, features a portrait of the man himself, the master of the drum.
