In January 1991, the US, with the support of 42 other countries, declared war on Iraq. A few months earlier in August of 1990, Iraq had invaded Kuwait which prompted an international response and, ultimately, attacks from a US-led military operation. The Persian Gulf and Middle East where the wars took place are, obviously, significant areas for the production of oil. In the United States, those opposed to the war were critical of America's involvement in the war for ulterior motives pertaining to, in part, the continued acquisition of cheap oil. This original single stitch shirt from 1991, with a few light marks and spots, is a protest shirt against the US's involvement in the Gulf War.
