During that time, Bonilla was a two-time All Star and was notably, or maybe more so notoriously, the highest paid player in the MLB at the time. When he was let go from the Mets the second time, the organization deferred his $5.9 million payout in favor of a payout lasting from 2011 to 2035 that would instead total $29.8 million.
