Tompkins Square Park is a beautiful and historic public park located in Manhattan's East Village. While it was known for its political protests, skateboarding, and concerts, it is also known to be home to several infamous riots, 1874 and 1988. The 1988 riots occurred as a response to an attempt to impose curfew on the park by Mayor Ed Koch to try to remove unwanted occupants from the park, including unhoused people and punk squatters. The police ended up assaulting over 100 people, most of it caught on film. Two years later, the police, under order from a new mayor, Mayor David Dinkins, were attempting to do the same exact thing, create another curfew for Tompkins. Luckily, thanks to the people's efforts, the curfew was not enacted. This original Tompkins Square Curfew demonstration flyer is in great condition with light discoloration.
