Rapper and skateboarder Lil Wayne came onto the scene strong. He was signed to Cash Money Records by Birdman in 1995. Since then, with releases such as The Block Is Hot andThe Carter (and The Carter II and III), Weezy has become one of the highest selling and most respected rappers to ever do it. During the height of Wayne's popularity, Wayne had a string of arrests from 2007 to 09, and spent a year on Rikers Island in New York City for criminal possession of a weapon. He was released after serving eight months. During that whole time, the entire rap world advocated to Free Weezy. Lil Wayne would later release the Free Weezy Album exclusively on the Tidal streaming service in 2014.
