Most of his work was dark and kind of spooky. He was very influential on the mystery, sci fi, and detective genres. Some of his most famous works include "The Raven," "The Cask Of Amontillado," and "The Tell-Tale Heart," but he has many, many works beyond that. Poe died in 1849 in Baltimore, MD.
