Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968. During his lifetime, King was a champion of Civil Rights. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, the year after he delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech at the March on Washington. The federal recognition of Martin Luther King day, celebrated on the third Monday of January to honor MLK's January 15th birthday, didn't happen until 1983, 15 years after his death. The passage was controversial because of King's anti-capitalist leanings and his perceived radicalness. This original poster, in amazing condition with minor surface creates, is from the first time the bill was voted on in 1979. This vintage Dr. Martin Luther King shirt, lightly worn with a few spots from prolonged storage, wishes MLK a happy birthday.
