The Cro-Mags were not the first hardcore band. They weren't even the first hardcore band from New York. But when they debuted their 1985 tape Age Of Quarrel, they revolutionized the sound and style of hardcore forever. Yes almost all of the songs on this tape would go on to be re-recorded a year later with slight alterations for The Age Of Quarrel, their Profile Records LP, but this is the the beginning of it all. The songs are hard and angry while still maintaining a sense of structure, melody even, so that even in your first time hearing the songs you can sing along by the end of it and get in the pit for the mosh parts. The Cro-Mags still continue to this day, but this original Cro-Mags Age Of Quarrel tape, sealed!, is where it all started.
