The Castro neighborhood of San Francisco is one of the first ever gay neighborhoods in the city, and, therefore, one of the first in North America and even the world. To this day, Castro district remains a vibrant community. Community United Against Violence is an organization that was founded in 1979 with the simple goal of removing violence and oppression from the LGBTQ communities in San Francisco. They policed Halloween night in the Castro neighborhood to help everyone stay safe from outside troublemakers. This original two-sided Community United Against Violence raglan sweatshirt, with a few light marks and wear, was made for Safe Monitors the Halloween On Castro celebration in 1988.
