Clueless, the comedy about pretentious and popular Beverly Hills teens, was released in 1995. The movie, which was written and directed by Amy Heckerling, featured Alicia Silverstone as Cher just after she had broken through to the mainstream with her Aerosmith music video appearances, as well as Stacy Dash as Dionne Davenport, Brittney Murphy as Tai Fraiser, and Paul Rudd as Josh Lucas. It was a smash success, making over $55 million at the box office. The film is based on the Jane Austen novel Emma but is also a story all its own, a classic piece of 90s film and culture.
