It took a few years for Saw to get made. Australian director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell dreamed up a simple horror movie that could be made on a tight budget, inspired by films like The Blair Witch Project, and moved forward from there, though they couldn't get any production company to pick up the film. They were told to shop the movie around Los Angeles and were met with positive receptions, eventually accepting an offer from Evolution Entertainment. The first Saw premiered in 2004 and made over $100 million at the box office. The film was immediately franchised and the second installment, Saw II which starred Donnie Wahlberg and 7th Heaven's Bevery Ann Mitchell, came out in 05. The movie picked up where the original dropped off: suspenseful twists and turns matched with gore and a scary little puppet named Billy. The movie was another smash success, besting the first and making $147 at the box office. The Saw series continues to this day, but this vintage promo shirt, lightly worn in great condition, is from the earliest days.
