E.T. came out in 1982. It was an instant classic, a story of both friendship and alienation. Michael Jordan made his debut for the Chicago Bulls two years later. Another instant classic. While the two have very little to do with each other, they were both cultural touchstones for the decade. They could be identified merely by their silhouette.
