Vintage Charlie “Bird” Parker Poster

Charlie "Bird" Parker was a jazz saxophonist from Kansas City, MO. Beginning in the late 30s, Bird played around jazz clubs in Missouri, eventually linking up with Jay McShann and his Territory Band, which was the first band Parker toured and recorded with. Bird moved to New York to pursue playing full time. There he would meet Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk, among others. He was instrumental in the creation and transmission of bebop, a style of jazz which would come to change the genre with players like Bud Powell, Max Roach, and Art Blakey. Parker died at age 34, but despite his tragically short life he would leave a lasting impression on jazz. This original poster from 1992, in amazing condition, features an photo of Bird in action, letting the saxophone play him as he would say.
