Jack Kerouac was an American writer. A founder of the Beat Generation, Kerouac was known for such works as On The Road, The Dharma Bums, Big Sur, and many other works of fiction and poetry. His candid, jazz-inspired writing about drug use and spirituality went on to be inspirational to American culture as a whole, but maybe most specifically to the hippie movements of the late 60s. R. Crumb, on the other hand, is one of the most important comic artists. Crumb's folk-inspired, cross-hatched became the gold standard of the 60s underground and countercultural comix. In 1985, Crumb released a small pamphlet entitled Meet The Beats which featured portraits of many famous Beat writers, including, of course, Kerouac himself. This original promotional shirt for R. Crumb's Meet The Beatsfrom 1985, in deadstock condition with a few spots from prolonged storage, features a great portrait of Jack Kerouac.
