Vintage Mental "Planet Mental" T-Shirt

Mental released Planet Mental, their debut LP and swan song, in 2005. The band had only formed a few years earlier in 2001. They began by releasing two demos of Underdog-inspired hardcore that was unafraid to be lighthearted at times. Then, in early 2003, singer Greg Wilmott founded his own label Lockin Out to release their debut 7" And You Know This. This is when the band really solidified their sound. There were still plenty of jokes involved, but the band was entirely serious. Later that same year, they released another 7", Get An Oxygen Tank, on Bridge 9 Records, and appeared at the annual Posi Numbers festival. Mental returned to Lockin Out for their final two releases: the Yo! 7" in 2004 and their only LP Planet Mental. For Planet Mental, the band fully embraced their Supertouch influence, combining sing-songs choruses with some more mid tempo moments. They even recorded in New York with the legendary Don Fury. Shortly after the album's release, the band decided to call it quits. Despite their short tenure, Mental and Lockin Out changed the landscape of hardcore. This original Mental shirt, in great condition with a small seam coming undone in the armpit, is from the band final era of the band when they released their Planet Mental LP in 2005.
