They started the 20th century as one of the most dominant teams in baseball, as they won five World Series very early on, but then fell into one of the most storied droughts in baseball, not winning a championship between 1918 to 2004. There were many close calls in that time, from Carlton Fisk's homer at Fenway and Bill Buckner's error, but the Curse of the Bambino seemed to be unbeatable.
