In 1989, The Cure released Disintegration, their eighth album. In a little over a decade since their founding, the British alternative goth rockers led by guitarist and singer Robert Smith rose from the independent circuit to the top of the charts. Disintegration was their biggest hit at that point of their career, going to #3 in the UK and having singles go to #1 on the Modern Rock chart and #2 on the Pop charts. To support the album, the band scheduled their 1989 Prayer Tour. They played stadiums across the country, bringing their moody music to huge crowds. The Cure, of course, play to this day, and are still led by Smith. This original The Cure shirt, nicely faded and worn, is from their 1989 Prayer Tour in support of Disintegration.
