The name The Longhorns was first used in 1900, and since then the Horns have gone on to win an astounding number of championships across all sports, including probably most notably in football. Texas is one of the most winningest football schools in the history of college football, making the burnt orange and white loved by fans and feared by their enemies. They have won a total of four national championships and continue their reign to this day. And beyond that, UT Austin is also an enormous and well-regarded school that is regularly ranked as one of the best schools in the nation.
