Metallica had an interesting year in 2000. They were fresh off an overlapping album cycle for two interesting records, Garage Inc. and S&M, and were otherwise doing their usual thing. That was until Lars heard a demo version of one of their songs on the radio. He traced the leak and found out about this program called Napster which allowed people to share music for free. There were tens of millions of users all sitting at home instead of going out to their record store. Metallica decided that they would sue the company, which was run by a teenager and some young adults, and put an end to this loss of revenue. Napster eventually went bankrupt and one year later Jason Newstead, the band's bassist, quit the band. Metallica is still together, now with Robert Trujillo on bass, and are still releasing music that you can't get for free. This original Metallica shirt with art from Tony Squindo, with a few light bleach marks on the bottom seam, is from 2000.
