Step Forward was a straight edge hardcore band from Boston, MA. The band was founded in 2006 by members of Mental, Mind Eraser, Look Alive, and Have Heart with simple goals: play early USHC influenced hardcore. That means the songs were short and hard with plenty of mosh parts and the lyrics straight forward. They were an anomaly for the time though. They weren't really youth crew. They weren't really demo core. And they had solos. All of these things made them one of the most interesting and exciting bands of their time. Originally, though, they weren't going to be called Step Forward. The band's original name was actually Loud And Clear, a reference to the legendary Abused 7". Unbeknownst to them, though, a band in Belgium, a side project of Justice actually, already took that name right as they were starting. So they settled on Step Forward and moved forward, releasing a 7" in 2006 and one more in 2014 before breaking up in the mid 2010s. At National Edge Day 2008, a show in Haverhill, MA that featured the first performances by Free Spirit and No Tolerance, members of the scene made shirts — 72 to be exact — to honor the band's name as they originally intended it. They got art from Spoiler and rounded it out with references to Standhard Records and Lockin Out, neither of which were the label home for Step Forward (that was Painkiller). This original Step Forward shirt, in excellent condition with light wear and slight discoloration, was originally given out to friends at National Edge Day 2008.
