Clifford Brown won Down Beat's Critics' Poll for New Star in 1954. That year, Brown released the album Jam Session with Clark Terry and Maynard Ferguson on the EmArcy label and played on three records with Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers. Two years later, Brown died in a tragic car accident at the age of 25. To pay homage to the late jazz great, his hometown of Wilmington, DE began to organize the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in 1993. In 1999, the lineup included the Lou Donaldson Quarter, The Jazz Messengers, Benny Molson and Randy Brecker, and many, many more. The festival still continues to this day. This original Clifford Brown Jazz Festival shirt, deadstock in excellent condition, was originally a staff member's shirt from the 1999 edition of the fest.
