Sonic Youth were a band from New York City founded in 1981. They spent their first decade of a band ruling the underground, releasing various LPs on SST and touring non stop, bringing their No Wave influenced rock to every corner of the globe. By 1990, the band, which consisted of Kim Godron, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, and Steve Shelley, had signed to major label DGC for the release of Goo, their sixth album. Two years later in 1992, the SY followed it up with Dirty which was produced by Butch Vig just a year after he did Nirvana's breakthrough Nevermind. While Sonic Youth was pushed into more mainstream channels, the band still embraced their noisy and weird foundation — they just played it to more people. The band continued on until a breakup in 2011 with all members pursuing various solos acts afterwards. This original single stitch Sonic Youth shirt, with some pinholes and spots, features the Mike Kelley art to their 1992 album Dirty
