Mental released And You Know This on January 25, 2003. The record was both the band's debut and the inaugural release on Lockin' Out Records, the label ran by singer Greg Willmott. The 7" and its release show was a pivotal moment in early 2000s hardcore. At the time, hardcore was self-serious with dreary lyrics and chaotic, heavy compositions. Mental ushered in a new aesthetic that was at times not so serious but always focused on style and steeped late 80s hardcore history. Mental went on to release two more EPs and an LP before breaking up in 2005. Lockin Out has gone on to release dozens of records from that original scene and beyond.
This limited 20th anniversary edition of And You Know This features new, reimagined art by Spoiler, unseen photos from Jay Bil and Lauren Ceike, an updated layout, and clear blue vinyl.
